About
Phil Constable was born in Canterbury, Kent, 1971. BA (Hons) Fine Art, Liverpool John Moore’s University 1995. MA Creative Technology at the University of Salford 1999. Associate lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Phil’s work spans from site-specific installation in New York to moving image light installations in London, to commercial artist represented by XSELLIS Gallery, London. and supported by Openvizor, Abbas Nokhasteh. Phil exhibits nationally and internationally.
Phil’s work takes inspiration from the layers of history and their presence in a particular time which are often recorded and observed in a fragmented way. His work allows a glimpse into this place and subsequently into the inner being which is often obscured by the mess and chaos of the everyday.
Phil has been developing Victorian processes with glass that involve hand silvering, mark making, gilding and etching. The variations of distressed silvering has a relationship with how we summon and recall memories with it’s distortions.
* I understand we are very busy, however, could I please ask if you can view my instagram as well as PDF. I work on clear glass by mark making, gold gild and hand silver. These process’s / techniques are very hard to show in photographs and the short reals reveal the true quality in the pieces.
